Clan Maclean Events:  50th Anniversary of London Association

In London's prestigious Caledonian Club on Friday 17th October '03 the Chief, Lady Mary, The Lady Elizabeth, Malcolm & Anna Maclean, Emma & Giovanni Amati, the Chieftains of Dochgarroch and Pennycross, the President of The Maclean Association of California, and sixty members of the Clan gathered to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Clan's first ex-Scotland Association.
A message of congratulation was received from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
The event was hosted by Peter Maclean, President of the London Association who, completing his three year term, handed over the Presidency to V.P. Mary Wilson who had carried-out all the arrangements for the celebration.
"On behalf of the worldwide Presidents and members of the CMIA, I would like to congratulate the London Association on its 50th anniversary and hope that you all have a wonderful evening.  Thinking back to 1953, it was a year of much optimism in the UK.  The country was coming out of the effects of WW2.  In addition we had the Queen's Coronation and the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Col Sir John Hunt's expedition, which put Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing on top of the world.  (Not to mention the Korean War armistice).
Sadly I cannot be with you but quite a few from Scotland will be there to share the celebrations.  Again many congratulations from all Macleans worldwide."
Lt Col Donald MacLean, President CMIA.
