International Gathering of the Clan Maclean

 
 

 

The Clan Maclean Association is organising the International Gathering on Mull from Tuesday the 22nd to Saturday 26th June 2027

 

 
IMPORTANT
If travelling using a vehicle it is strongly advised that you book your ferry in plenty of time. Demand for vehicle places has increased in recent years and you cannot now rely on being able to turn up and be allocated a place on the next ferry if travelling from Oban to Craignure.
 

 
The Reception Centre at the Aros Hall, Tobermory will be open Tues, Wed, Thurs, Friday. 9.30 am to 4.30 pm . Check in there on arrival to collect your “Gathering Welcome Pack” (one for each family or group), Tickets and Name Badges. Also the Clan Maclean Heritage Trust, Maclean DNA Group, and Maclean Genealogy Stands.

Excursions / Events:
 
Tuesday 22nd June – 2.30 p.m.
Unveiling of memorial to Dr Hector Maclean of Gruiline and his daughter Christina. Proponents of the Gaelic language and poetry at Erray House, Erray Road, Tobermory to which all are welcome to attend. Followed by a reception exclusively for Friends of Clan Maclean Heritage Trust. Tuesday 22nd June – 5.30 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. – Aros Hall, Tobermory
Meet and Greet Party
This will be a social gathering for attendees to have an informal get together, arranged by the Clan Maclean Association of Scotland.
Cost: Free
 
Wednesday 23rd June – 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Visit to Iona guided by Nicolas Maclean of Pennycross
Coach from Tobermory including Iona Ferry fare and Iona Abbey entrance fee. The Abbey and its museum contain many important Clan Maclean items.

Visit to the Treshnish Isles and Staffa- Limited Numbers
Boat Trip, leaving from and returning to pontoons at Ledaig Pier.

Maclean History walking tour of Tobermory
Visiting places of interest in the immediate area.

Traditional Gaelic Music Concert

For those without their own transport a coach leaves Tobermory at 11.00 a.m. and leaves Duart for the return to Tobermory at 5.15 p.m.

Chief’s Ball
Wear the finest clothes you have with you, lots of tartan, and join in the dancing to Charlie Kirkpatrick’s Band.

Saturday 26th June – 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. – Duart Castle
Clan Maclean Gathering - Coach available from Tobermory departing at 9.30 a.m. – departing Duart Castle at 4.30 p.m to return to Tobermory. Cost: £10
Duart Castle – arrive by 10.00 a.m. ready to muster in the car park for the Grand March starting at 10.30 a.m. Group photograph at 4.00 p.m.

Currency: It is recommended that you ensure you have enough cash in Pounds Sterling for your needs. There is very limited availability of cash machines (ATMs) on the Isle of Mull and some retailers also have limited or no network availability to be able to accept card payments
 
Coach departures: All coaches leave from the Ledaig Car Park, west end of Tobermory Main Street.
 
Mobility Issues: If you have problems with mobility and would like to discuss your needs with regard to events on this form, please contact in the first instance the Co-ordinator.
 
Accommodation: Booking of accommodation is solely the responsibility of the attendee and not the Clan Maclean Association.
 
Travel Arrangements: It is advisable to check ferry times before travelling and book your vehicle space if travelling by your own transport.
 
Personal Insurance: Please ensure that you have suitable, and adequate, personal health insurance.
 
Travel Insurance: Please ensure that you have taken out suitable travel insurance for your journey and stay, including cancellation insurance.
 
Compliance with local laws: Be aware that on arrival at the event the laws may be different between Scotland and England and all local laws in place at the time of your visit must be complied with.
 

 
Dress for the Gathering Week. This is largely a matter of choice but the weather on Mull is very variable. For all excursions warm clothing, flat shoes and a light weight waterproof are advisable. Please wear something tartan whenever you can such as tie, hat, scarf or kilt. The Ball is the occasion to wear all the best you have brought with you and the Gathering is a tartan occasion.
 
Chief's Ball.There will be a walkthrough of the dances on Friday 25th of June in the Aros Hall.
