- Andrea was born in Cleveland, Ohio, while Darrell and Adrienne were in medical residency. She was born by elective Caesarean section at St. Anne's hospital, attended by Dr. Barrett. She suffered from neonatal jaundice which was supposed to be
due to ABO incompatabiity. However, both she and Adrienne are type O +. At any rate, the jaundice subsided without treatment. She was quite a handful to raise as a child, having a very strong will. One day at about age 2, she stayed in her room
all day rather than change out of her party dress to go outside. Another 'joyous' event was trying to buy her shoes However, she was adorable to look at and eventually turned into a fine, but strong-willed person.
As far as health goes, she is quite healthy, but does suffer from vascular headaches like her mother and younger brother. Also, like Todd, she was tested by jejunal biopsy for gluten intolerance when she was a child. This turned out to be
negative, much to her grandmother Todd's relief. Other problems seem to be of a skeletal nature and no doubt stem from injuries acquired during gymnastics and falls and other ligament while riding. One time, she was accidentally kicked in the
face by her beloved Sunny (palamino) and had her nose flattened.Typically she insisted on finishing the horseshow although her eyes were just slits in a ballooned-out face.
It would seem, at times, that she cares more for animals than people and she might have a good point there. To protest against the inhumane treatment of food animals, especially chickens, she became a vegetarian at about age 30. She is
small in stature ( about 5'3", 115 lbs.) and very attractive with naturally curly brown hair and hazel eyes. She enjoys physical thrills such as horse-jumping and river kayaking.
Andrea was a Brownie. She attended Gordon Elementary school and Bankhead Elementary school, and Kelowna Secondary School up to end of grade 10. She took Grades 11 and 12 in Beaverton, Oregon. She was a marvellous athlete, playing
basketball, and participating in track and field for Kelowna Secondary School. She was also involved in competitive gymnastics at the provincial level, but suffered a lot from pain in loose ligaments, especially in her ankles. Her first love
was always her horses. Her first pony, when she was 11, was named Jiggs. He was a bad-tempered little palamino, but she persisted and her love of horses and competitive skills grew - as did the cost to her father She competed in hunter and
stadium jumping in the USA and in BC and Alberta and still does to this day in 1996.
At the end of grade 10, she begged to be allowed to go to Beaverton, Oregon to train under Joan Curtin. She stayed there for 2 years, living with Mrs. Curtin, who was somewhat of a tyrant. Andrea learned to be a trainer. She came home to
Kelowna and went to Okanagan Colege for a year. Then got a job in Roy, Washington, as a trainer. There she met her future husband, Greg. Cooper, a firefighter-paramedic. During this time she took EMT training and worked for a couple of
ambulance companies. She then attended Tacoma Community College for 2 years and received her certificate as a paramedic. Finally she applied to the City of Tacoma Fire Dept. and was hired as a firefighter and then moved up to paramedic when a
vacancy occurred.
Her marriage, at age 21, to Greg Cooper did not prosper and after 4 years, they were divorced with no children. They remain friends to this day.
After a number of years, she met Ray Schroeder, a handsome young registered nurse, who worked in patient transport for Shepard Ambulance. They were married in a ski boat on the Columbia River in Eastern Washington state. After saying their
vows, they jumped into the water and took off on water skis. They live now (Jan/96) in rural Renton, Washington. There is acreage enough for Andrea to have her horse(s) on the property.
Andrea had previously purchased 5 acres of property in Roy and now (Jan./96) she and Ray are building a barn with an apartment on top. They plan to live there while waiting to build a house. Also, Andrea is expecting her first child on
April 21/96.
A great gal, our Andrea, but she is still strong-willed. She has gotten more domesticated over the years, but still is somewhat at a loss as a cook. She is much more at ease in the barn. She and Ray will never have a peaceful life
together, but they are a great couple.
